Building artisans all over the country, under the aegis of the Bricklayers Association of Nigeria, have implored President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to tackle the high cost of building materials.
After its national conference in Ilorin, Kwara State capital on Monday, the association’s National President, Mr. Oyebamiji Dauda lamented the scarcity of building artisans.
He said that the cost of building materials, coupled with the effect of subsidy removal, with the resultant increase in the cost of transportation to project sites, had sent qualified artisans out of job, and this had resulted in unqualified artisans taking over the space.
Oyebamiji told President Tinubu to look into the leadership of the Standard Organisation of Nigeria, SON, the body responsible for conducting quality checks on building materials.
He said this would check building collapse as a result of the use of sub-standard building materials.
