Kano State Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo has sternly warned local council staff to always be at their duty posts for effective service delivery.
Gwarzo, who is also the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, gave the warning when, in the company of the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad Kabara, and other management staff, he paid impromptu visit to the secretariats of Dawakin Kudu and Kura local councils.
According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dahiru Lawan Kofar Wambai, the deputy governor however expressed happiness at Dawakin Kudu as he met the Interim Management Chairman (IMC), Alhaji Rabi’u Dogo Tamburawa, and the supporting staff in their offices. He then instructed that a commendation letter be issued to the IMC and the local council.
The reverse was the case at Kura local council headquarters where the deputy governor and his team could not meet the management and other staff, a situation that warranted him to direct the council’s management to report to the headquarters of the Ministry for further action.
Gwarzo reiterated the determination to continue with the unscheduled visit to local councils, stressing that any staff found wanting would not be spared in facing the wrath of the law, according to stipulated rules and regulations.
He called on the council staff across the state to brace up to their engagements as the state government is willing to implement policies and programmes aimed at uplifting the living standard of the people.
Kabara said that the ministry would continue to monitor the performance of its staff with a view of rewarding hard work and commitment, and discouraging laxity and truancy.
Tamburawa thanked the deputy governor for the unannounced visit, which he described as a morale booster to the staff of the local council.
