A former governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole was, on Sunday night, rattled out of his wits as he faced a barrage of questions from Channels Television’s Sunday Politics anchor, Geoffrey Uzono.
After taking some questions about how the state All Progressives Congress (APC) caused crisis last week in Benin City, the state capital, and trying to defend the party that they were not the one that led the carnage which resulted in the death of a police officer, Oshiomhole went on to speak ill of the Peoples Democratic Party’s controlled state government, but the anchor interrupted him, noting that the questions were about the APC candidate and not the governor of the state. The anchor drew the attention of the Senator representing Edo North district to the fact that he not the candidate on the ballot. He then urged the former APC National Chairman to encourage his party’s candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to honour several invitations for an interview sent by the media station. This, Uzono said, is to enable the APC candidate to tell the people about his preparedness and discuss his manifestos for them.
“So, Senator Oshiomhole, please help us beg your candidate to honour the invitation to talk to us about his plans for Edo State and the people,” he stated.
Oshiomhole, who was unprepared for the questions while trying to defend the party’s candidate, Monday Okpebholo, totally went off the grid of the question, saying that governance is not in eloquence or speaking good English, noting that Monday must not talk with Channels as “he is already speaking to the people”.
It’s worthy of note that since February Monday, Okpebholo was declared the flag bearer of the APC, he has not appeared in any of the media houses to discuss his vision or manifesto for the people of Edo, always running away from pressmen and turning down every invite to appear on the air.
Another question Oshiomhole found embarrassing and was unable to respond to was the issue of the nation’s economy under his party, the APC.
The former national chairman of the party ran out of patience and queried the interview why he was asking him questions he wasn’t prepared for.
He said: “When I was invited for this interview today I wasn’t told I will be speaking about the economy of Nigeria and how things have gone back”..
He deliberately avoided speaking to that issue.
