A 43-year-old British-Nigerian businessman and social media influencer, Igho Ubiribo, has died after undergoing a penis enlargement procedure while on holiday in Thailand with his wife.

Ubiribo died in March after receiving 40 millilitres of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine at a clinic in Bangkok, according to evidence presented during an inquest at the Inner West London Coroners’ Court.

According to the Daily Mail, Ubiribo began experiencing chest pain and lost consciousness twice while receiving a massage with his wife, Danielle Simba Allen, after the procedure.

He was rushed by ambulance to Sukhumvit Hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with a pulmonary embolism, a potentially life-threatening condition in which a blood clot blocks blood flow to the lungs.

Ubiribo reportedly lost consciousness again before doctors could carry out a recommended CT scan. Medical staff attempted to revive him for more than 100 minutes, but he died in the early hours of March 6.

A postmortem examination conducted in the UK later found that material in Ubiribo’s lungs matched the hyaluronic acid used during the cosmetic procedure, supporting the diagnosis that the pulmonary embolism was linked to the treatment.

Coroner Jean Harkin concluded that Ubiribo died “as the result of a cosmetic procedure abroad”, with his cause of death recorded as a pulmonary embolism resulting from the procedure.

Ubiribo, who had approximately 185,000 followers on Instagram, was buried in London in May. His funeral was attended by Nigerian music star Davido and other prominent figures.

Medical experts have previously warned about the potential risks associated with penis enlargement procedures involving fillers.

Professor Vaibhav Modgil, an NHS andrology specialist and consultant urological surgeon, said such procedures could have serious and potentially devastating consequences for patients.
