To prevent the spread of the cholera outbreak in his locality, the Chairman of Bomadi Local Government Area, Delta State, Rawlings Andaye, has distributed free drugs to all primary healthcare centres across the council area.

The Supervisory Councillor for Health, Adaka Amameniye, while distributing the drugs allocated to Kpakiama Primary Healthcare Centre to various health facilities in the creek on Friday, emphasised that the Local Government provided the medications free of charge to all primary healthcare facilities in the council area.

According to him, the council boss had deemed it expedient to curb the spread of the disease by swiftly swinging into action even before any recorded case in the LGA.

He emphasised that the council boss ordered free treatment for patients in all the healthcare facilities “In case of any emergency arising from the disease.”

Speaking further, he said ‘Our amiable council chairman had deemed it necessary to take both preventive and precautionary measures by providing the drugs for the primary healthcare facilities across the council area, even before any recorded case here.

‘My advice to our people is that they should run to the nearest primary healthcare facilities in their various communities in case of any emergency regarding the disease.’

Also speaking, the Chief Matron at the Kpakiama Primary Healthcare Centre, Eunice Edonkumoh, who is the most senior in the LGA, expressed gratitude to the council chairman after receiving the drugs.

She expressed gratitude ‘For his swift action” just as she explained that the distribution of the free drugs is ongoing to the various healthcare facilities in the communities through the respective health officers.

She added, ‘Cholera is a communicable disease mostly caused by contaminated water and food, and there are some recorded cases in various communities such as Esanma, Ogriagbene, Akugbene, Kpakiama and other communities in the council area.

‘My plea and advice to the people of Bomadi Local Government Area and environs is that they should adhere to proper hygiene, people should take precautionary measures to avoid being attacked by the disease.

‘However, some important preventive measures of the cholera disease are proper boiling of water before drinking, serving your food hot, eating your food hot, washing of hands before and after eating, washing your fruits before eating and washing your hands after going to the toilet.’
