In a bid to promote tax compliance and sensitise the public on the importance of paying taxes, the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) Lagos and District Society embarked on a sensitisation walk at the Mechanic Village, Agidingbi, Lagos.

The walk, which was led by the sectoral group’s chairman, Zaynab Abdulkareem saw members of the Institute, including tax experts and practitioners educating the mechanics, traders, and shop owners on the need to pay taxes and how it can help improve the economy of the country.

The walk started from the Tax Professional’s House at Otunba Jobi Fele Way to the Mechanic Village in Agidingbi. Abdulkareem emphasised the importance of tax compliance, stating that it is a civic duty and a responsibility of every citizen to pay their taxes. She stressed that the government needs tax revenue to provide basic amenities such as good roads, hospitals, and other social amenities for the citizens.

The chairman further explained that tax compliance is a key indicator of good citizenship, and the CITN is committed to educating and enlightening the public on the need to fulfill their tax obligations.

The walk also provided an opportunity for the mechanics and shop owners in the village to ask questions and seek clarification on tax matters from the tax experts and practitioners present. The CITN members were able to address their concerns and provide guidance on tax compliance.

The sensitisation walk was welcomed by the stakeholders, who expressed their appreciation for the efforts of the CITN in educating them on tax compliance. Many of them pledged to comply with tax regulations and ensure that they fulfill their tax obligations.

CITN is a professional organisation committed to promoting excellence in taxation practice in Nigeria. The sensitisation walk is part of their efforts to promote tax compliance and ensure that Nigerians fulfill their civic responsibility of paying taxes.
