Enyimba refutes 50% salary slash

Enyimba have rejected reports claiming that the club imposed a 50 per cent salary cut on players following their defeat to Wikki Tourist, describing the story as false and irresponsible.

The clarification came on Tuesday after a widely circulated report alleged that the nine-time NPFL champions had issued a pay-cut notice to the squad and suspended the coaching crew in response to Sunday’s 1–0 loss in Aba.

The club has already parted ways with technical adviser Stanley Eguma and his assistants after a poor run of results, but insisted that no financial sanctions were approved.

In a statement, Enyimba said the claim of a salary slash was entirely fabricated. The club explained that it had not authorised, initiated, or implemented any form of wage reduction and urged supporters to dismiss the report.

The statement said the story ‘is purely a figment of the writer’s imagination and should be disregarded by the general public’.

Enyimba added that it remained committed to the highest standards of professionalism in its dealings with players and staff.

They expressed concern that the allegation originated from a media platform that made no attempt to verify the information through official channels.

‘The club expresses concern that such false information emanated from a supposedly reputable media organisation/personnel without any attempt to verify the claims from the club’s official platforms or through its management or media team’, the club wrote.

It said the report undermined the longstanding relationship between Enyimba and the media, while stressing its willingness to continue working with journalists to promote the NPFL and support football development in Nigeria.

The denial comes amid wider scrutiny of internal changes at the Aba club. Enyimba confirmed earlier in the week that Eguma had been asked to step aside, along with his assistants, while the club reviews its performance after a difficult start to the season.

Assistant coach Lawrence Ukaegbu has taken interim charge as the team prepares for a matchday 14 fixture against Katsina United in Jos.

Despite the managerial upheaval, Enyimba maintained that its players have not been issued any financial penalties.

The club reiterated that all official decisions are communicated solely through its verified platforms and urged the public to rely on accurate, authenticated information as the team seek to return to winning ways.
