His concerns stem primarily from the country’s escalating insecurity, threats he faces due to his activism, and broader economic challenges.
Falz made this candid revelation during a recent appearance as a guest on the ‘Dear Ife Series Podcast’, hosted by Ifedayo Agoro.
When asked by the host, “Would you raise your children in Nigeria if you were going to have any?”, Falz initially expressed surprise at the depth of the question.
“Ah! That’s a deep question. I didn’t expect to hear this question. I haven’t really thought that far, let me not lie,” he responded.
However, after a moment of reflection, the ‘This Is Nigeria’ crooner elaborated on his hesitation.
“But it’s something that I can’t actually say ‘yes’ to because of what we are talking about [the insecurity in the country, threats due to my activism, and Nigerians’ docility].”
While acknowledging the severity of the issues, Falz also conveyed a glimmer of hope for his homeland.
“It’s something I cannot outrightly say ‘yes’ to. And it’s so sad. But I can’t also outrightly say ‘no’ because I’m pro-Nigerian and I really believe that we can actually get it right. But I don’t know, I don’t know, but let’s see [laughs],” he concluded, leaving his position somewhat open-ended but clearly rooted in the nation’s current predicament.
The rapper is currently single and does not yet have any children.
His comments reflect a growing sentiment among many Nigerians, particularly those with means, who grapple with the decision of raising families in a country facing significant socio-economic and security challenges.
