Despite a High Court ruling that barred the Federal Government from taking over Kuyan Ta Inna lands in Kano, the former appears determined to proceed with the acquisition of the lands to execute a railway project.

The 75 owners of the plots took the Federal Ministry of Transportation, the consultant in charge of the railway project, and all relevant security agencies, especially the Nigerian Army to court over the matter.

However, on 19 and 20 June 2025, the landowners reportedly sighted contractors at the location attempting to clear the lands and continue the railway project.

Some of the landowners confronted the executing agencies with the court ruling, but the agencies claimed ignorance of the court’s decision.

On Saturday, the same contractors were again seen attempting to forcefully defy the court order and proceed with clearing the area.

Most of the lands are owned by less privileged individuals and orphans. The plots are located in government approved layouts and are valued at more than five million naira each, but the executing agencies appear unwilling to comply with the court ruling.
