Grammy nomination was released recently and Nigerian artistes got a sizable recognition; the most from Africa.
This is an indication of how well the country has performed on the global scene with albums from Bxnx, Asake, Fireboy and Olamide’s EP getting a deserving buzz around the world.
Soon to join the rank of artistes topping charts and bagging nominations is HenryKvsh, who dropped his EP, Knowwhere earlier this month.
In a discussion with the fast rising artiste on his self confidence and his African root, he said he got the inspiration for his name from the Kush/Nubia kingdom.
He spoke about how their culture and history, especially coming from Africa inspires him.
He said: “Africans are always looked down on; and to think we have one of the first civilisations in the world is something to be proud of.
On his style of music, he said: “I do Afrobeat mixed with Afrotrap; I call it afrotrapkin“. The boldness to define his style, knowing it is a unique niche of Afrobeat is inspiring, but HenryKvsh has always refused to be boxed int a corner which is why the EP was a leverage on the elements of Afrobeat to create a masterpiece.
He said: “Afrobeat has opened the door, and now that the world is watching it is time to show them we can actually entertain. And what better way to do it, if not by showing them other elements from our sounds which they are yet to experience.
“Africans are immense when it comes to entertainment; it is a lifestyle for us”.
“The amount of money we spend on owambe and lifestyle is evident, you cannot be dull around an average African.
“This is why Africans are doing great across the globe and our music is equally penetrating the global market effortlessly.”
HenryKvsh, whose real name is Owueka Odili Henry, and is a graduate of Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, spoke so boldly, you can feel his roots and growing up in every statement he makes about himself and his root.
Although a Delta State indigene, he was born and raised in Auchi, and those two states are culture oriented with their history echoing from ancient civilisations.
