The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has cautioned Southeast youths against joining the British Army’s recruitment drive, describing it as a “deceptive move” to use them as “sacrificial lambs” in future wars.
The separatist group warned Southeast youths to shun calls to join the British Army, saying the previous efforts made by the African youths to fight various wars for Britain that made Britain superpower, were not rewarded by the British government.
“We warn Biafran youths to avoid being used by the British government, which has no respect for your lives”, said Comrade Emma Powerful, IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary in a statement on yesterday.
Powerful emphasized that the British government has a history of exploiting Africans, citing World Wars I and II, where thousands of Africans were recruited and sacrificed for Britain’s interests.
“Our fathers fought for Britain but were abandoned and never recognized. Instead, Britain supported the Nigerian government’s genocide against Biafrans during the 1967-1970 war”, Powerful stated.
IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Okwu Kanu’s words were echoed: “Biafrans should not allow themselves to be slaughtered for a nation that doesn’t care about their freedom or existence”.
Powerful urged parents to advise their children against joining the British military recruitment, saying, “Do not be a sacrificial lamb for your oppressors. Instead, join hands with IPOB to restore the Biafra we can all be proud of”.
The group said that Britain should recognize Biafra’s right to self-determination and release Kanu from detention before seeking their cooperation.
“Biafrans cannot be sacrificed for Britain to be a superpower anymore declared.
“If Britain can have a very strict visa policy for African immigrants, why then do they have a very relaxed and easy application to join the British Army?
“African countries must understand that Britain is preparing to war with Russia and should recruit and deploy their citizens to defend their own country”, Powerful said.
