Commodity dealers at the popular Singer Market have entered into an agreement with the Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission (PCACC) to maintain stable prices of goods.

Earlier, stores belonging to the dealers were clamped down by officials of PCACC which led to an investigation which revealed that the commodity dealers were not party to the hoarding of goods in the state.

PCACC had recently seized some warehouses in some markets in Kano where items such as rice, sugar, pasta, spaghetti, macaroni and others were hoarded.

The Singer Market dealers complained that the persistent rise in the prices of goods was not from them but from the companies that produce the goods to which they called for the intervention of the government in order to bring down the prices of the items.

Addressing newsmen in Kano yesterday, one of the leaders, Alhaji Ibrahim Danyaro, said they would work with the commission to ensure that there is price control to ease life for people, not only in Kano but also those who come to buy from Kano.

“We are pleased to inform you that following the recent operation by the anti-graft commission we have come with invoices and other documents to prove to the commission that we are not in any way engaged in hoarding commodities at the Singer Market.

“We have proved beyond reasonable doubt that we don‘t engage in such. Our problem is from the producers of the goods. They are the ones increasing the prices unconditionally. What we buy today is not what we will buy tomorrow.

“We have reached an agreement with the commission that we are not going to increase the prices of goods even if we sell below the company price.

“We want His Excellency the state governor to address this issue by meeting with the producers to get to the root of the consistent increase in prices”.

The chairman of the PCACC, Muhyi Magaji Rimingado has reassured the hoarders that they are going to come after them and will not relent in their effort.
