The Kaduna State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has joined the global community to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child, a day dedicated to recognising and promoting the rights, empowerment, and education of girls across the world.
In a statement in Kaduna by the chapter’s Chairperson, Sahura Jibrin Maidoki; and Secretary, Hadiza Bello Abdullahi, NAWOJ Kaduna reiterated its commitment to amplifying the voices of girls, advocating for their rights, and creating media spaces that highlight their potential and achievements.
The statement read: ‘We call on government agencies, development partners, civil society organisations, and community leaders to continue supporting initiatives that protect the girl child from all forms of abuse, discrimination, and marginalization, while providing them with opportunities to thrive.
‘As women journalists, we reaffirm our dedication to using the power of the media to promote gender equality, mentorship, and empowerment for every girl in Kaduna State and Nigeria at large.
‘Happy International Day of the Girl Child’!
This year’s theme underscores the importance of investing in girls’ leadership, education, and digital inclusion to ensure a brighter and more equitable future.
