The Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), the foremost environmental NGO dedicated to nature conservation and biodiversity resources management, is set to host its annual/flagship policy and advocacy lecture.

Tagged Chief S. L. Edu Memorial Lecture, the 22nd edition will hold on Tuesday, 28 May 2024.

With the theme: ‘Carbon Credits: Opportunities and Pitfalls’, the lecture will be delivered by Africa Climate Director of The Nature Conservancy in Nairobi, Kenya, Mr. Kevin Juma.

The memorial lecture is an annual event organised by NCF in collaboration with the family of Late Chief Shafi Lawal Edu, founder of NCF, with the support of Chevron Nigeria Limited. For over two decades, the Foundation has, through renowned speakers, brought environmental issues to the fore while articulating solutions for them.

The memorial lecture will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help – The Hall, 16 Musa Yar’Adua Street, Victoria Island, Lagos at 11 am.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu is the Special Guest of Honour. The audience will comprise members of the diplomatic corps, traditional rulers, policy makers, the academia, researchers, top government representatives, environmental and sustainability stakeholders, students, local and international press among others.

NCF’s Director General, Dr. Joseph Onoja said: “Climate change is one of the biggest challenges of our time. Rising temperatures and changing weather patterns are putting our planet’s biodiversity at risk, which in turn threatens the vital ecosystem services that we rely on for survival. But there’s hope! The lecture will open our eyes to how to handle the situation smoothly”.

The memorial lecture, which is a free hybrid event, will also feature two Ph.D grantees that will be awarded grants worth millions of Naira, sponsored by Chevron Nigeria Limited.
