Government, parents, educational institutions, religious bodies, advocacy groups, and other relevant stakeholders have been urged to ensure that the overall growth and development of the girl-child is accorded paramount attention.
In her message commemorating the International Day of the Girl Child being marked globally on Wednesday, 11th October, the President of Save Her Foundation, Rev. Fola Achudume said that no stone should be left unturned in seeing to it that the girl-child is well groomed towards facing the future with all the confidence she can muster.
While baring her mind on the theme for this year’s celebration, ‘Empowered Girls Become Empowered Women’, she explained that training a girl-child means building a nation.
“By nurturing their growth, we empower them to reach their full potential, and in turn enrich our society”, she said.
Achudume, who noted that apart from being up to the task at taking care of the home front, women, who were once girls, when put in positions of leadership or authority always excel.
“When we provide girls with equal opportunities, education and support, we equip them to step into leadership roles, drive innovation and create positive societal change”, she said.
The Save Her Foundation President while felicitating all girl children implored them to always have that ‘can-do spirit’, and be firm in the belief that they can attain any height in life.
The award-winning girl-child advocate and motivational speaker particularly appealed to fathers not to in any way discriminate against their girl-children, noting that girl children should be seen as special blessings to the family.
“Investing in the Girl child is like planting a seed that grows into a tree, and eventually a thriving forest.”
She posited further that when the foundation is right, during the formative years of a girl’s life, she would be in a good stead to possess the qualities and skills required to be successful.
