President Muhammadu Buhari recently participated in the World Bio Summit 2022, held in the Republic of Korea.

In the Nigerian president’s delegation was the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Bashir Yusuf Jamoh.

The NIMASA helmsman addressed a business gathering at the Korean Presidential Villa in Seoul.

He updated his audience on the development of blue economy initiative in Nigeria.

Nigeria’s blue economy remains one of its anchor sub-sectors, with maritime trade contributing 1.6 percent and fisheries contributing 3-5 percent to the GDP.

In the 1960s, one of the major focuses of Nigeria in the blue economy was fishing. The country was home to many trawling companies and fishing boats.
