As the Nigerian Army is celebrating its 162nd anniversary, marking a significant milestone in its history of service to the nation. The Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede, has been instrumental in the Army’s efforts to maintain peace and security in Nigeria and beyond.
In a statement by the National President of Northern Consensus Movement (NCM), Dr, Awwal Abdullahi Aliyu said ‘Under the leadership of CoAS Oluyede, the Nigerian Army has remained resolute in countering terrorism and other threats within Nigeria.
Awwal traced the Nigerian Army’s history to 1863 with the formation of the ‘Glover Hausas’ by Lt. Glover of the Royal Navy.
He further explained that ‘over the years, the Army have played a crucial role in major global conflicts, internal security operations, and peacekeeping efforts across Africa.
He maintained that ‘Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede has been at the helm of the Nigerian Army’s efforts to enhance its operational capabilities and prioritize the welfare of its soldiers.
