One escapes death, other injured in Lagos building collapse

A female adult reportedly escaped death in the early hours of Wednesday at the scene of a building collapse in Oke-Arin Street, Onipanu, Lagos State.

The abandoned two-storey building was said to have collapsed to Ground Zero due to the aging of the structure which had fast dilapidated.

The structure is said to be around the rail line in the area.

An adult male however sustained minor injuries and has been taken to the hospital for medical attention, while the building has been cordoned off to prevent any threat.

The Permanent Secretary in charge of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu said: “Upon arrival at the incident scene, an abandoned two-storey building collapsed to ground zero. Further investigation revealed that the incident occurred due to aging of the structure.

“Fortunately, no loss of life. However, one adult male sustained minor injury and has been taken to hospital.

“The affected building has been condoned off in order to prevent any threat. Operation concluded and Cobra team heading back to base”.
