Peace commission, other stakeholders to hold symposium lectures on International day

The Kaduna state peace commission, in partnership with other stakeholders, have organised activities to mark international World peace day celebration of 2024.

The events with aims to explored the best pathways for addressing global and local problems so at to attained peace, security and progressive development in Kaduna and Nigeria at large.

The commission chairman made this while briefing the newsmen’s, at the Commission office in Kaduna, the Executive vice Chairman Kaduna state peace commission, Dr Saleh Momale , said “the international peace is the Day for all to celebrate and reinforce the achievements of humanity in the promotion of peace.

He explained that, having reflected on the context in the state, we have collectively adapted this year’s theme as “Strengthening the Culture and Values of Peaceful Coexistence in Kaduna State”.

“its affirmed to the progress already made in promoting peace, and also emphasizing the need to nurture and sustain this growth in our dear state”.

Dr, Sale added that “it’s perfectly rhymes with one of the cardinal goals of the Kaduna State Government in promoting inclusivity, unity and cooperation in governance and service delivery for all citizens”.

He maintained that Peace, as we all know, is a necessity for the survival of life, and it is universally acknowledged that without it, neither human progress nor harmony with nature can truly be achieved.

He opined that “In recognition of this, the International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly to mobilise the global community to work together towards the promotion of peace and is celebrated on the 21st of September annually.

The commission chairman further noted that, “around the World, conferences, meetings, discussions, advocacies and several related events are held to explore the best pathways for addressing global and local problems so at to attain peace, security and progressive development.

“In 1999 the UN General Assembly laid out the values needed for a culture of peace,; respect for life, human rights and fundamental freedoms; and the promotion of non-violence through education, dialogue and cooperation.

The commitment to peaceful settlement of conflicts; adherence to freedom, justice, democracy, tolerance, solidarity, cooperation, pluralism, cultural diversity, dialogue and understanding at all levels of society and among nations.

“Amongst the stakeholders are; civil society organisations, government institutions, faith based organisations, professional bodies, youths organisations, women organisations, media practitioners, community based organisations among others”.

According to the statement, the commission with support from partners, will conduct are public lecture,l also and conduct a peaceful rally within the University, and display of cultural dances and other forms of educational entertainment.

“Also the three strategic policy documents will be unveiled to the public; the Kaduna State Action Plan on Youths, Peace and Security; the Kaduna State Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security and the Kaduna State Pathway to Sustainable Peace and Social Harmony”.

“These policies will provide durable and effective platforms for continuous consultations, interfaith dialogues, application of Alternative Resolution Disputes (ADR) mechanisms and the overall promotion of peace”.

“Our message to all the people of Kaduna State on that Day is “cultivate the value of peace so that no person is harmed, and no person’s property or wealth is illegally confiscated, stolen or deliberately destroyed”.

The Chairman also, commended the state Governor, Uba Sani for his unwavering assistance given to the commission that encourage in promoting peaceful coexistence and harmonious relations.

“And eliminating divisive narratives and uniting the people of the State, with confident that in the coming years, Kaduna State that will be source of pride for all its residents and a welcoming home to all Nigerians and the global community”.
