During the presentation of Obi, the Political Change Agent, a book authored by Ike Abonyi, in Abuja on Tuesday, Obi cautioned those who might seek to undermine the electoral process.
‘This time around, we will make sure that we are everywhere. We will vote, the votes will count and those who will think that they will not count it, we will count them. We will make it work’, he declared, signaling a renewed commitment to safeguarding the electoral process.
He added that the party would meticulously select credible individuals for this crucial assignment, including those for State Houses of Assembly and the House of Representatives.
He advised against seeking political office for financial gain, stating, ‘If you want to make money from politics know that you are part of this problem’.
During the event, which saw the book reviewed by former diplomat Oseloka Obaze, Obi also offered insights into how his administration would have approached the twin policies of petrol subsidy removal and naira flotation.
He asserted that, under his leadership, petrol prices would have stabilised between N500 – N600 per litre and the Naira at N1,000 against the United States dollar.
He pointed to examples like Angola and Ghana, where transparent governance has led to currency appreciation.
Obi lamented the current state of the nation, stating that ‘Nigerians have been turned into refugees with Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in their own country’.
He argued that the current political system is uncaring, evidenced by pervasive insecurity, poverty, theft, and a lack of accountability from public officials.
The former Anambra State governor decried the use of national resources for luxurious renovations and mansions while citizens suffer and die.
‘People are dying every seven minutes yet we have sophisticated buildings and mansions. That is what we want to dismantle so that it will be easy for everybody’, Obi stated, urging Nigerians to rise and collectively dismantle the unsustainable current structure.
