The Federal Government has been urged to consider reinstating the appointment of a National Amirul Hajj, as was the practice in the past.
Receiving stakeholders from the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board at his palace, the Emir of Kano, His Highness, Muhammad Sanusi II, emphasised the importance of reviving the selection of a National Amirul Hajj, who would serve as the leader of the Nigerian delegation during the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
He noted that the concept of Amirul Hajj has its origins from the time of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), who encouraged the appointment of leaders to guide groups on such spiritual journeys.
The Emir stressed the need for making the appointment of a National Amirul Hajj a necessary and consistent part of the Hajj exercise.
Director General of the Board, Alhaji Lamin Rabi’u Danbappa said that the delegation was at the Emir’s palace to invite His Highness to attend the final Hajj demonstration at the Hajj Camp.
Danbappa further said that the Board has concluded all necessary arrangements for the flag-off of the airlift of pilgrims scheduled for 13 May 2025.
Chairman of the Board, Alhaji Yusif Lawan expressed deep appreciation to the Emir for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of Nigerian pilgrims.
He also echoed the call for the Federal Government to consider reinstating the position of the National Amirul Hajj.
