Barrister Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has been sworn in as a member of the 10th Senate. She now represents Kogi Central, replacing Engr. Abubakar Ohere of the All Progressives Congress (APC) whose election was nullified by the courts.

This followed her presentation with Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the duly elected Senator for the district.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, who is elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), becomes the first female Senator from Kogi State.

On Tuesday, the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, upheld Akpoti-Uduaghan as the duly elected candidate in the Kogi Central Senatorial Election held on 25th February.

The court dismissed Ohere’s appeal for lacking in merit.

In September, the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal, sitting in Lokoja, nullified Ohere’s election.

The court further declared Akpoti-Uduaghan as the actual winner of the poll.

Ohere headed to the appellate court to seek redress but the court further upheld Akpoti-Uduaghan as the winner of the poll.

Shortly after she was sworn in by the Senate President, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan expressed her commitment to bring positive change and be a strong voice for the people of Kogi Central senatorial district.
