Coach Rasheed Alani Adegbenro has returned to Nigeria after three seasons in the highly competitive league in Somalia.
In an exclusive interview with Sportspro News Publisher, Bayour Issah in Ilorin, Adegbenro described the league as a well organised even as the standard may be low in terms of performance index at the level of Confederation Cup and Champions league in Africa.
Established in 1973, Dekedana Sports Club placed second at the just concluded season but could not participate in the continental engagement because the league was completed late. Another season starts next April.
Adegbenro, who is on a two-month break after working for over a year, commended the Somali Football Federation for making it compulsory that all registered club in the country accommodate and feed their players.
He however lamented the serial killing in the East African country which has denied investors and discouraged foreigners to come to Somalia where the population is 100 percent Muslim.
Adegbenro’s first club Gaadidka were nearly relegated before he rescued them back to the topflight.
According to the manager, Dekedana Sports Club, based in Mogadishu, the capital city, have been performing due to the standard of football administration in the country.
He said that most premier league players earn more than US$500 (about N210,850) with good accommodation and feeding, free of charge.
An indigene of Ogun State, Adegbenro played for Kwara Bombers, Kano Pillars, BCC Lions, Yobe Desert Stars and Offa United, and said he is now available for any club in Nigeria after obtaining his CAF C licence in addition to his cognate experience in modern coaching.
