President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja today for Europe to begin a three-week vacation as part of his annual leave.
The President’s first destination will be London, United Kingdom, where he is expected to spend part of the break before continuing his working vacation in Europe.
According to the Presidency, Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria after the holiday and join preparations for the January 2027 election campaign.
Presidential Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, disclosed details of the President’s leave while speaking with journalists.
Dare explained that the vacation would provide Tinubu an opportunity to “refuel” after several months of intensive engagement with matters of state.
He said the President had spent the past six to seven months focused on issues affecting the country, including security, the economy and other aspects of governance.
“The President has had several months—six, seven months—of being engaged with state matters. We’ve seen monumental changes, monumental decisions taken with our security, with our economy and so many other things as pertains to the running of the affairs of this country,” Dare said.
The presidential aide noted that the political campaign season had already begun and would involve several months of intense activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
He, however, stressed that government business would continue during the President’s absence.
Tinubu’s vacation comes shortly after Vice President Kashim Shettima returned from a two-week leave on August 18, two days earlier than his scheduled resumption date.
Shettima had commenced his leave on August 6, with his office saying at the time that he would use the period for “study, reflection and intellectual renewal”.
Tinubu’s three-week break is expected to precede an increasingly busy political period as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
