The Yoruba Union, Ìgbìnmó Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá, demands President Tinubu resignation, citing deepening economic hardship, rising insecurity, and suppression of fundamental rights under his administration
Tinubu Resignation Call: The Yoruba Union, Ìgbìnmó Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá, has urged Nigerians to stand against what it terms “intimidation and suppression of fundamental rights” by security agencies under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

In a statement issued on Democracy Day, signed by its convener, Olusola Badero, and released on Thursday by Assistant General Secretary, Elder Akinola, the group accused the Tinubu led government of plunging Nigeria deeper into economic hardship, insecurity, and civil repression.
The union has called for President Tinubu to resign, stating that he has exhausted his ideas for salvaging the country. “Hunger and insecurity know no tribe, religion, or political affiliation,” the statement read, highlighting the widespread impact of current policies.
The group further stated that “Tinubu’s so called economic reforms have devastated lives and destroyed thousands of businesses, leading to a spike in kidnappings across the South West and other parts of the country.”
The union lamented that under President Tinubu’s leadership, Nigerians have endured a series of harsh neoliberal policies.
These include the removal of fuel subsidy, the devaluation of the Naira, the commercialisation of education, increased electricity tariffs, and multiple bank charges.
Hunger and insecurity know no tribe, religion, or political affiliation.
According to the union, these policies have made food insecurity, homelessness, unemployment, and poverty much worse across the nation.
“In the past two years of Tinubu’s administration, the number of killings and abductions by terrorists disguising as herdsmen has skyrocketed,” Badero noted.
He added that “instead of tackling insecurity, security agencies are more focused on harassing journalists and activists who expose the truth.”
The union also accused the president of criminalising dissent and protest, pointing to the arrest of peaceful protesters and critics who oppose government policies.
“The same man who led protests under President Jonathan has now turned around to brand protests as treason,” the group critically observed.
Furthermore, the Yoruba Union condemned the president’s recent request to the National Assembly for approval of substantial external loans and domestic borrowing.
“Tinubu is mortgaging the lives of both present and future generations. These loans offer no relief to the ordinary Nigerian but serve the interest of the ruling elite,” the group asserted.

The union urged Nigerians to defend their democratic rights against oppression. They added, “Democracy is meant to serve the people, not enslave them.
Nigerians must resist intimidation and manipulation by a government that seeks to silence their voices.”
