Obasanjo, Abiodun, Akinyemi, Teriba, others enliven Rotary District 9110 conference

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun; former President Olusegun Obasanjo; former Minister of External Affairs, Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi; top economist, Dr. Ayo Teriba are a few of the dignitaries that will be attending the 41st Conference of Rotary International District 9110, which formally opens in Abeokuta.

Scheduled for the June 12 Cultural Centre in the Ogun State capital, the three-day event which would also be attended by over 4,000 Rotarians from clubs in Lagos and Ogun States, will be declared open by Governor Abiodun.

A statement by the Public Image Chairman of Rotary International District 9110, Rotarian Michael Effiong, indicated that Obasanjo is expected to deliver a goodwill message, while Akinyemi and Teriba would deliver the key note address and special lecture respectively.

According to the District Governor, Rotarian Omotunde Lawson, the conference promised to be impactful and intellectually-stimulating.

She noted that as part of the event, about 100 youths who participated in a training, empowerment and start-up programme would be given items to start them off in business

She stated that she was particularly delighted that the youth-focused initiative, which was happening for the first time as part of the conference, would witness the graduation of those who have learnt graphic design, solar/CCTV installation, adire artistry, confectionery, make-up artistry, event management/decoration getting support and mentorship.

Chairman of District 9110 Conference (DISCON) 2023 Committee, Rotarian Bukola Bakare said that the event would also witness the introduction of Rotariant Ify Ejezie as District-Governor-elect, Rotarians Femi Adenekan and Wole Kukoyi as District Governor Nominees, Rotarians Lanre Adedoyin and Henry Akinyele as District Governor Nominees Designate.

She said that the conference would create a convivial atmosphere for Rotarians to network, engage and be entertained.

DISCON 2O23, which will also be attended by Rotarian Sam Worentutu from Rotary District 9104, Ghana, who will be representing the Rotary International President Jennifer Jones, will be rounded off with a Gala Nite at the Kessington Adebutu Legacy Hall, Abeokuta.
