1 die, 2 injured in Otto Wharf tanker accident

One person died and two others were injured in an accident involving a tanker at Otto Wharf on Sunday. According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the truck was laden with 4,5000 litres of diesel.

A report by the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu stated that “investigation gathered revealed that the tanker was driving at top speed inward Mile 2, then suddenly developed a mechanical fault, lost control and fell on a parked tow truck by the road side.

“Unfortunately, a male adult lost his life while two adults male sustained injuries. One of the injured victims (the tanker driver) was taken to hospital, while the other victim was extricated by the LRT (LASEMA Response Team) and has been attended to by the agency’s paramedics.

“A combined team of first responders including LRU FIRE, LRU AMBULANCE, FRSC, LASAMBUS, LAGS FIRE and NA have concluded the operation.

“Both vehicles have been removed from the thoroughfare, the body of the adult male has been bagged and handed over to relatives. The road surface has been treated with fire retardant to prevent a secondary incident.

“Motorists plying the area are to exercise caution”.
