One more match remains as Matchday 25 of the Nigeria Professional Football League season 2021/22 on Wednesday.

Katsina United, who lost away to Gombe United on Sunday, triumph this evening at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina in a rescheduled Matchday 20 fixture to move out of the relegation zone.

Mustapha Salisu accounted for Katsina’s goals, first in the 42nd minute to cancel Jerry Alex’s strike for visiting Abia Warriors 30 minutes earlier. Salisu then added the winning goal in the 57th minute to lift Katsina United from 18th to 15th, two steps above the danger zone.

That result marked Katsina United’s eighth victory in 24 matches this season.

Kano Pillars, who were banished from Kano following the fracas that disrupted their last home game against Katsina United, played their first match at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja. And what a way to start playing away from home!

Jerry Alex struck early – in the 12th minute – to ease pressure on Sai Masu Gida who last tasted victory on Matchday 19 when they beat Gombe Stars 3-1.

The lone goal proved just enough to earn the Kano side maximum points against visiting Sunshine Stars. But they could only go as far as top the bottom four on superior goal advantage over Lobi Stars.

No matter the outcome of next Wednesday’s match away to Abia Warriors, MFM will remain at the relegation corner at the end of Matchday 25.

Rivers United top the table with 55 points from 25 matches, while Plateau United are four points adrift at No 2, and Rangers occupy the top spot.

Sunday: Akwa United 1-0 Lobi Stars, Gombe United 1-0 Katsina United, Rangers 3-0 Kwara United

Monday: Plateau United 1-0 Remo Stars, Shooting Stars 2-0 Enyimba, Wikki Tourists 0-0 Heartland, Rivers United 3-0 Niger Tornadoes

Tuesday: Nasarawa United 1-0 Dakkada FC

Wednesday: Kano Pillars 1-0 Sunshine Stars

Katsina United 2-1 Abia Warriors (Matchday 20 rescheduled)

Rescheduled to Wednesday: Abia Warriors v MFM (both 4 pm) (Matchday 25)
