Two men have been sentenced to prison over the violent burglary of Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and his then-fiancée, Alessia Elefante, at their home in Paris in 2023.
The Paris Criminal Court on Friday sentenced 21-year-old Ilyas Kherbouch, described by prosecutors as the mastermind of the robbery, to nine years in prison and fined him €80,000.
His co-defendant, Moktar D., was handed a five-year prison sentence, with two years suspended and subject to probation.
A third defendant, 22-year-old Khyan M., was acquitted after prosecutors accused him of helping to organise the robbery from his prison cell.
The incident occurred in July 2023 at the couple’s luxury apartment on Avenue Montaigne in central Paris, where Donnarumma and Elefante were reportedly tied up and threatened with knives.
Donnarumma was attacked during the robbery, while Elefante was reportedly choked with a cable. She later suffered a miscarriage, which was attributed to the trauma caused by the incident.
At the time of the robbery, Donnarumma was playing for Paris Saint-Germain before moving to Manchester City in 2025.
Prosecutors had sought prison sentences ranging from four to 10 years for the three men accused of organising or participating in the robbery.
They requested the maximum 10-year sentence for Kherbouch, also known as “Ganito”, who had previously gained notoriety after escaping from Villepinte prison in Seine-Saint-Denis, north of Paris, in March.
Prosecutors had also sought nine years for Khyan M., known as “Kiki”, and six years for Moktar D.
However, the court acquitted Khyan M. while handing down prison terms against Kherbouch and Moktar D. over their involvement in the violent burglary.
