2023: Politicians sign Peace Accord in Kwara

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the general elections, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr Paul Odama  has cautioned various political parties in the state not to heat up the polity with hate speeches, inciting statements and personal attacks, assuring that the command would provide a level playing ground for all of them.

He sternly warned the political parties against the destruction of bill boards, adding that anyone caught would be arrested and prosecuted.

Also various state and federal security agencies domicile in the state urged the political parties to be peaceful and conduct themselves according to the laid down rules,urging them to remember that there is life after elections.

They also cautioned the politicians against using the roads badly during campaigns and urged them  not to involve non-Nigerians in the democratic process as they are not constitutionally allowed.

Representatives of 15 political parties were present to sign the Peace Accord to ensure peace before, during and after the 2023 general elections.

The parties present included All Progressives Congress,Peoples Democratic Party, Social Democratic Party, Young Progressives Party, All Nigeria Peoples Party, Labour Party, Accord Party and Action Peoples Party.

Odama said: “I appeal to politicians, especially in the forthcoming elections, their media aides and vote canvassers to shun incense and inciting statements, personal attacks and spreading of fake news. They should be committed to issue-based campaigns and avoid hate speeches during political rallies”.

He further said: “On our part as security agencies, we are fully prepared to discharge our constitutionally-bestowed duty of providing a level playing ground for all political parties in line with the provision of the electoral laws.

He stressed that “politicans are equally enjoined to promote issue based campaigns, address issues that are fundamental to the citizens which promote respect and tolerance for the differences in opinion, while   ensuring there is civility and decency during public discuss”.
