The presidential campaign organisation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is to be chaired by Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel with his Sokoto State counterpart Aminu Waziri Tambuwal as Director General.
According to a statement on Thursday by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, Emmanuel will be supported in his assignment by two other governors.
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed is the Vice Chairman of the Council (North), while Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde chosen as Vice Chairman (South).
The campaign council has 326 members including the candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar; his running mate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa; and the National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.
The party’s Board of Trustee Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara; former Vice President Namadi Sambo, and the party’s governors including Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State were named as members of the council.
On the party’s National Campaign Management Committee, Tambuwal, the DG, will be supported by four deputies. Former Cross River State Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke is the Deputy Director-General, Operations; Prof. Adewale Oladipo is the Deputy DG, Administration; Daar Communications Chairman, Chief Raymond Dokpesi is Deputy DG, Technical and Systems; while former Enugu State Governor Okwesilieze Nwodo is the Deputy DG, Research and Strategy.
The party also created 15 directorates for the campaign, spread under the four Deputy DGs.
The council will be inaugurated on 28 September at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, the same day set by the Independent National Electoral Commission for the commencement of the 2023 campaign for national elections – presidential and National Assembly.
