Following the observance of the 2024 International Peace Day in Kaduna, the team leader of the Network of Peace Journalists, Ibrahim Yakubu has praised the Kaduna State Peace Commission (KSPC) and its 37 partners for organising a meaningful peace symposium.

Held in the 1,000-seat hall at the state university, the conference gathered diverse stakeholders in peacebuilding, including traditional leaders, religious figures, community peace observers, and advocates for improved Christian-Muslim relations in the region.

This year’s theme was ‘Cultivating a Culture of Peace and Unity’.

Yakubu commended the state government, KSPC and various civil society organisations for their efforts to foster peace and unity both locally and nationally.

He also expressed gratitude to the Interfaith Mediation Centre, Search for Common Ground, Mercy Corps, and the Joint Initiative for Strategic Religious Action (JISRA) for their role in training Nigerian journalists in conflict-sensitive reporting.

Kaduna journalists have received training from JISRA, Mercy Corps, and KSPC, focusing on early warning and response strategies while following Do-No-Harm principles.

Yakubu called on all Nigerians to embrace patriotism and urged both state and Federal Governments to tackle the insecurity that threatens peace and stability in the country.

Every year, countries around the globe observe Peace Day, established by the United Nations to reflect our shared desire for a world free from conflict and strife.
