The Nasarawa State Government has awarded a contract for the renovation of the Lafia Township Stadium as the 2025/2026 Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) kicked off on Friday, 22 August 2025.
The disclosed this During an inspection of the facility on Friday, the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr. Yakubu Kwanta explained that the comprehensive renovation was aimed at upgrading the stadium to meet NPFL requirements for both the National League and international competitions.
Kwanta told the News Agency of Nigeria that the contract was awarded to a reputable firm, Okoh Homes Nigeria Limited, which would handle the upgrade of the pitch, tracks, dressing rooms, and other key facilities to enhance the comfort of players, technical crews, and spectators.
He added that Governor Abdullahi Sule’s passion for sports, particularly football, informed the administration’s commitment to providing a standard stadium for the state.
‘The overhauling of the stadium facilities is to meet both national and international standards, where national and international games can take place here’, he said.
Also, the Managing Director of Okoh Homes Nigeria Limited, Mr. Emmanuel Eromasele, appreciated the state government for the opportunity to upgrade the stadium ahead of the NPFL season.
Eromasele explained that the company had previously partially renovated the Lafia stadium in 2023, and assured that they would deliver quality work within the stipulated time.
