The Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris has urged Nigerians to be hopeful, determined and confident that things will work well in 2025.
In his New Year message on Wednesday, the governor encouraged his people to cooperate with one another to achieve an economic revival in the state, as he advised the people to pray for the leaders to enable them to fix the challenges bedevilling the nation.
“As we go into the New Year, let’s remain hopeful, prayerful and determined to do something that will aid the development of our dear nation.
“As good citizens of Nigeria, we should consistently pray for our leaders to have the wisdom to salvage the country.
“If Nigeria is good, it’s for the good of all of us, Similarly, if the nation is bad, every citizen will be affected,” he said.
The governor called on those who took up arms against the country to lay down their weapons for the sake of peace, saying: “We have no other country than Nigeria, we must, therefore, commit to ensuring prevailing peace and harmony.”
While congratulating Nigerians for witnessing yet another year, Idris urged them to support government policies and programmes to give room for more dividends of democracy in their respective areas.
In his nationwide address earlier on Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu assured Nigerians of his resolve to boost food production and reduce inflation on food and drugs to 15 per cent, while strengthening the economy in 2025.
Tinubu highlighted economic growth indicators, including lower fuel prices, rising foreign reserves and a stronger Naira, as signs of progress in 2024 that would continue into 2025.
He stated, among others, “Though 2024 posed numerous challenges to our citizens and households, I am confident that the New Year will bring brighter days.
“Economic indicators point to a positive and encouraging outlook for our nation. Fuel prices have gradually decreased, and we recorded foreign trade surpluses in three consecutive quarters.
“Foreign reserves have risen, and the Naira has strengthened against the US dollar, bringing greater stability.”
