FIFA will deliver its verdict on Nigeria’s eligibility protest against DR Congo on Monday, 16 February.
Last December, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), officially complained, saying at least six DR Congo players who featured in the African playoff final in November were not eligible because they recently changed their nationalities.
The Super Eagles lost the match 3-4 on penalties after it ended 1-1 in regulation time.
Recently, the NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, said; ‘We have a good case’.
Sanusi also said: ‘We don’t go into things that would be a waste of time. We believe we have a strong case, and we are waiting for FIFA’s decision on our complaints’.
If FIFA supports Nigeria, they will be allowed to take part in the intercontinental play-off tournament, which will take place in March in Mexico.
New Macedonia will first take on Jamaica on 26 March in the Mexican city of Zapopan with the winners facing DR Congo (as it stands) at the same Estadio Akron five days later to pick a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
