2027: Makinde holds talks with EU ambassador, 16 European in Abuja

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has met with the European Union (EU) Ambassador to Nigeria and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Gautier Mignot, alongside ambassadors from 16 EU member states in Abuja.

Makinde disclosed the meeting in a statement shared on his social media accounts on Thursday, October 8, 2026.

According to the governor, the discussions focused on ongoing international development cooperation initiatives between the European Union and Nigeria, current affairs and the country’s future.

In his post, Makinde said the meeting provided an opportunity to discuss areas of cooperation between Nigeria and the EU.

He wrote, “This morning, we met with the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, His Excellency @GautierMignot2, as well as Ambassadors from 16 member states in Abuja.

“Our discussions centred on ongoing international development cooperation initiatives between the @EUinNigeria and Nigeria, current affairs and the future of Nigeria.”

The meeting comes as political activities intensify ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

However, the governor did not provide further details on specific agreements reached or projects discussed during the engagement.
