Oyo State Governor and presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, has urged Nigerians to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Makinde made the call in a video shared on his social media accounts on Tuesday, where he displayed his PVC and encouraged citizens to collect theirs regardless of their preferred candidates.

The governor said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had fixed 9 October 2026 for the commencement of nationwide PVC collection.

“INEC has confirmed that Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) collection commences on 9 October 2026. Please get your PVC so that you can participate in the 2027 election,” he said.

Speaking in the video, Makinde described the PVC as a means through which citizens could exercise their power to choose their leaders.

“Fellow Nigerians, INEC has set October 9th as the date for people to start collecting their Permanent Voter Card.

“This is your power. Irrespective of who you want to vote for, let’s go out, collect your PVC, and you will use it wisely,” he said.

INEC has also confirmed that registered voters can check their PVC status and collection centre through its voter services portal.

Makinde emerged as the APM presidential candidate in May 2026 and has since commenced political activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election. His campaign organisation on Tuesday inaugurated its National Campaign Management Committee in Abuja as part of preparations for the election.

The campaign organisation is targeting between 41 million and 68 million votes in the 2027 election, according to reports.

Makinde, who was first elected governor of Oyo State in 2019 and re-elected in 2023, is seeking to succeed President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

INEC said its national register of voters had surpassed 103 million following the completion of the latest Continuous Voter Registration exercise and biometric clean-up.
