Magazine publisher and businessman, Chief Dele Momodu has said that only a strong coalition of political parties can successfully wrest power from President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, citing internal divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

During his appearance on the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State’s monthly programme, “Guest of the Month”, held in Ibadan, the state capital, on Tuesday, Momodu made a striking admission regarding his current relationship with his party, stating that while his body remains in the PDP, his ‘soul has already left’.
He assessed the PDP’s capabilities, remarking, ‘if PDP is united, it has all that it takes to wrest power from the All Progressives Congress in 2027, but forces against it would not allow this to be’.
He further asserted that the APC is “jittery of the PDP’, recognising it as the sole opposition party capable of challenging its dominance in 2027.
This, he suggested, is a primary reason why the leadership of the APC is actively ensuring the PDP remains factionalised.
He also pointed to internal challenges within the PDP, alleging that some members are being exploited to undermine the party’s stability and progress.
However, he stressed that the PDP is a law-abiding party that consistently follows due process before making decisions on its members, adding, ‘It is the law that will stimulate the process of suspending or sacking erring members’, he said.
Momodu elaborated that removing President Tinubu in 2027 would be ‘almost impossible’ without a formidable team and a robust coalition.
He also stipulated that any formidable challenger to the current president must ‘come from the opposite direction in terms of regions in Nigeria’, hinting at a strategic regional dynamic for a successful campaign.
