25-year-old man stabs teenage wife to death in Sokoto

The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Sufiyanu Aliyu, of Gwanyal Village in Tangaza Local Government Area, for allegedly killing his 15-year-old wife, Suwaiba Abubakar Bawa, during a domestic dispute.

According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent Ahmad Rufai, on Wednesday, the incident occurred on 27 October, 2025, around 7:30bpm, following a heated argument between the couple at their home.

‘A Good Samaritan in the community reportedly alerted the police about the violent altercation.

‘Officers who arrived at the scene found that the suspect had allegedly used a knife to stab his wife to death.

‘The weapon was recovered as an exhibit, and the suspect was arrested on the spot’, Rufai stated.

He added that the victim’s body was evacuated to a hospital, where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

Rufai further disclosed that the ‘suspect confessed to the crime during preliminary interrogation, noting that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for detailed investigation and prosecution’.

The Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, commended the swift response of the operatives and reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice is served.

He urged residents to adopt peaceful means of resolving domestic disputes and to promptly report suspicious or criminal activities to the nearest police station.
