Businessman cum politician, Mr Peter has dumped the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The former Anambra State governor was one of the leading presidential aspirants of the party in the primary scheduled for this weekend.
Obi was the PDP vice presidential candidate in 2019, running the race with former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
In the present dispensation, Obi faced opposition within the party with the decision to leave the candidacy open to all geopolitical zones in the country, rather than consider the southeast from where an elected Nigerian president is yet to emerge.
Obi has been approached by the Labour Party and the Social Democratic Party, among others where he may be given a wild card to run the presidential race.
Obi was member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance when he contested and won the Anambra State governorship election and governed the state from 14th June 2007 to 17th March 2014. But he decamped to the PDP seven months after his tenure ended after several speculations.
