Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has been confirmed the Delta State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 elections.
At the party primary election in Asaba, the state capital, Senator Omo-Agege polled 1,190 delegate votes in an election in which he was the sole candidate.
Delegates reaffirmed their wishes in line with the Electoral Act 2022.
The Chairperson of the Electoral Committee, Oyibo Nwaneri Esq. congratulated the winner and party delegates on a successful exercise.
The Secretary of the Committee, Ambassador Elijah Onyeagba announced that out of the 1,350 adhoc delegates, 1,235 were duly accredited while 1,190 votes were cast for the lawmaker with one void vote.
In his remarks, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Rev. Monday Udoh Tom described the exercise as credible, peaceful, free and fair.
The election was supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Police and State Security Service operatives.
In his acceptance speech, Omo-Agege thanked delegates for reposing confidence in him, assuring that he would not let them down.
According to a statement by the Director of Communications and Media Strategy, Ovie Omo-Agege Campaign Organisation, Mr Ima Niboro, the APC governorship candidate lamented the neglect of large swathes of the state by the incumbent administration of Ifeanyi Okowa despite the immense resources available to the state, Omo-Agege said even the Governor’s core Anioma area had had nothing to show for their support for his administration.
He expressed dismay that despite the refusal of the Okowa government to pay pensioners in the last seven years, it had voted N5.1 billion for the construction of an International Conference Centre.
This, he termed, as a misplacement of priorities and a slap on the faces of senior citizens of the state.
“There is so much infrastructural decadence in this state. And we are in a hurry to get to work, win the elections and liberate our people”, Omo-Agege said.
Party chieftains at the event included the state Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, representing Delta North District in the upper legislave chamber; member representing Ughelli North/South/Udu Federal Constituency, Hon. Rev. Francis Waive; and Chief of Staff to the Deputy President of the Senate, Dr Otive Igbuzor.
Also in attendance were the party’s founding leader in the state and 2015 governorship candidate, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor; Chief Ayiri Emami; Chief Lucky Okperi, and Chief Edeh Dafinone were also present.
