Four Senior Secondary students of Premiere Academy, Lugbe, Abuja have been awarded the Diplôme d’Etudes en Langue Française (DELF), an official qualification awarded by the French Ministry of Education to confirm the French language proficiency of candidates from outside France.

The certificate has a lifetime validity and is accepted worldwide, while the test is offered annually by 900 centers in 154 countries.

The students – Adewuyi Ifeoluwatumininu, Suleiman Soumaiya, Ishiaku Fareedah and Ohabuike Deborah – were inducted at the graduation ceremony conducted by representatives of the French Education Ministry at the National Universities Complex, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

DELF encompasses six independent diplomas, corresponding to the three levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Each of the levels is sub-divided into four section tests, namely reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The listening, writing and reading are taken consecutively in the afternoon, while the Oral Examination is taken separately.

On the certification, Premiere Academy’s Director of Academics and Administration, Mr. Chris Akinsonwon noted that the certification represents another proof of the school’s commitment to ensuring that Premiere Academy students have the skills and qualifications to compete with the best globally, as well as the resilience to thrive under pressure while capitalizing on the opportunity that lie before them.

According to him, “the range of our curriculum and co-curricular provisions are designed in appreciation of the diversity of our student population profile and the goal of producing internationally competitive future leaders.

“This foundational philosophy of the school allows our students to exhibit their talents and potentials to the fullest spectrum on national and global stages, thereby pushing themselves beyond ordinary limits in their commitment to academic and lifetime excellence”.

He also stated that the school, which was established in 2005 with the mission to produce all-rounded, well-adjusted, socially aware and responsible students who will grow up to become global beacons for the nation in different areas of endeavour, would remain unwavering in ensuring that its students are guided and shaped by the standards of critical thinking, ethical principles, discipline and pursuit of high achievements.

He further said: “Premiere Academy takes immense pride in fostering an environment that encourages holistic development and commitment to imparting quality education through the combined efforts of our dedicated teachers, supportive staff and the immeasurable collaborative support of parents, partners and guardians who, through guidance and encouragement, continue to help our students find their academic journey rewarding and enjoyable in our system”.

In another feat, a teacher with Premiere Academy, Ajibola Temidayo Oluwagbenga has been adjudged the Best Teacher for the FCT at this year’s version of the Maltina Teacher of the Year competition. In addition to emerging a winner at the States category of the prestigious competition, Oluwagbenga also emerged one of the ten finalists in the overall national category.

Now in its ninth year, the Maltina Teacher of the Year competition is an annual national competition to identify, honour and reward outstanding teachers in Nigeria. Introduced in 2015 by the Nigerian Breweries’ Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, the competition is endorsed by the Federal Ministry of Education and other education stakeholders, including the Nigeria Union of Teachers, All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools; and the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria.

While thanking the organisers of the Awards, Mr. Akinsonwon described the selection of Premiere Academy’s Ajibola Temidayo Oluwagbenga as the winner for FCT as a further attestation to the school’s overall quality and first rate human and physical resources.

“We are happy that the investments made by the founders and all stakeholders to ensure that Premiere Academy establishes a sound footing as a secondary school with excellent human resources, sound infrastructure and organizational efficiency are bearing the desired fruits.

“Ours is an inspirational place to live, work and learn and we are happy to say that our setting, values, commitments and dedicated corps of well-rounded and high-achieving staff make our school truly unique and strategically focused on producing future leaders.

“Every aspect of the school’s vision is geared towards ensuring that personal development, community service, team work and leadership are consistently deployed as important aspects of growing and inspiring confident and caring international citizens in our care”, he explained.
