The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has berated the All Progressives Congress (APC) over claims that the ruling party would win the 2023 general elections with 43 million votes, if the conduct was free and fair.
While receiving the Ambassador of Poland to Nigeria, Joanna Tarnawska in his office on Wednesday, APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu had said: “With the massive support the party enjoyed from over 43 million Nigerians, there was no way the party will lose the 2023 elections”.
But PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba challenged the APC on how it hoped to pull the “imaginary” votes.
Ologunagba disclosed that, unless the APC Chairman was hallucinating, such a statement should not be coming from a party that rode into power through lies and propaganda.
“Who are the 43 million Nigerians the APC is banking on? Are they the ones that are hungry, whose lives have been cut short or whose children have been kidnapped? Abdullahi Adamu is hallucinating. That’s how I can describe it.
“APC is a party that came in as an SPV (Special Purpose Vehicle). They came into governance with lies, fraud and deceit. They have forgotten that Nigerians are wiser now. The truth is that every SPV is for a purpose but this one is liquidating. The lies of 2015 will not help them anymore.
“Are they talking about imaginary 43 million Nigerians who can’t travel by road or rail and whose children cannot go to school because of the ASUU strike?”, the PDP spokesman queried.
He further accused the ruling party of polarising the country along ethnic and religious lines, adding that Nigerians are more divided than ever.
“Nigerians are wiser now. We knew that we made a mistake in going to them. All they brought us was chaos and they will face the waterloo in 2023.
“They even have a presidential candidate who announced openly on national television that he brought the pain that the APC government headed by President Muhammadu Buhari represents on Nigerians. In a saner environment, that presidential candidate should be apologising to Nigerians”, he said.
From their respective presidential primary election, the PDP produced former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, while the APC elected former Lagos State Governor, Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Both candidates and their parties are yet to announce their running mates as the time of filing this report.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed a deadline of Friday, 17th June for the submission of the list of presidential candidates and their deputies.
