The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, says the Fourth Mainland Bridge project will create about 5,000 jobs for the youth and train students on how such infrastructure is built.
Speaking in an interview on Lagos Television’s Morning Delight recently, Omotoso said a contractor had been selected for the construction of the project.
The commissioner added that the Fourth Mainland Bridge, when completed, “will take huge traffic off the first, second and third mainland bridges, thereby reducing travel time for motorists”, adding that “properties along the project corridor are expected to appreciate geometrically”.
The PUNCH reports that the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, recently secured a partnership with the African Export-Import Bank and Access Bank for an investment of $1.3 billion in Lagos infrastructure, including the Fourth Mainland Bridge.
The governor signed the partnership deal with the two banks at the second Africaribbean Trade and Investment Forum 2023 in Georgetown, Guyana.
In an interview with newsmen on Thursday, Omotoso said the Fourth Mainland Bridge project would commence between the end of 2023 and the first quarter of 2024, adding that the project will take between 42 and 48 months to complete.
“The groundbreaking for the project will likely be done before the of this year. But, at the latest, I can assure you that the project will kick off within the first quarter of 2024.
Also, the project is expected to be completed between 42 and 48 months once it commences,” the commissioner said.
