The Kaduna State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev John Joseph Hayab has noted that at 63, Nigeria has not done well since independence.

He said: “At 63, we have not done well, we are still crawling, at 63, we do not even know what to do. There is so much insecurity, lack of growth, labour is threatening to go on strike because of poor services”.

He spoke on Thursday at a prayer session organised by the Baptist Seminary in Kaduna.

Hayab added, “We need to challenge ourselves on what we need to do contribute to nation building.

“We challenged ourselves that as Nigerians we must obey the laws of the land and our leaders should lead us by what the constitution said they should do to their citizens.”

He urged Nigerians to pay their taxes in order to hold the government responsible on what they need to do for the citizens, saying, “Those in governance must listen to the yearnings of the people. Nigerians are yearning for something better and want to see progress in all spheres of life.”

Continuing, he lamented: “We are only giant in number but failure in most of the sectors.”

Earlier, the Vice Chairman of Baptist Seminary, Kaduna, Rev Dr Manasseh Haruna, had explained that the programme was organised to celebrate Nigeria at 63.

He explained, “We are challenging ourselves for the country to be better. There are certain steps that need to be taken by doing what is right in order to move forward as a nation”.
