Consistent box office giants like Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham, and Ebonylife Studios have transformed this period into a fiercely competitive arena, delivering high-quality, captivating films that have inspired even more filmmakers to join the fray.

For December 2024, the Nigerian film industry promises an exciting slate of movies guaranteed to delight audiences.

Here are 7 Nigerian movies scheduled for release this festive season

1) Suspicion
Release Date: 28 November, 2024

Tosin Igho’s action-packed thriller ‘Suspicion’ delves into the harrowing experiences of ritual practice victims. The film continues the story from Igho’s 2008 short, ‘The Suspicious Guy’.

Cast: Stan Nze, Omowunmi Dada, Kalu Ikeagwu, Uzor Arukwe, Shaffy Bello, Tina Mba, Ashafa ‘Small Mummy’ Salamot, Francis Sule, Boma Akpore, Tony Akposheri, and Esegine Orezi Allen.

 

2) Everybody Loves Jenifa
Release Date: 13 December, 2024

The sequel to Funke Akindele’s ‘Jenifa’ universe promises more laughter and heartwarming moments. Directed by Funke Akindele and Tunde Olaoye, the film features returning stars such as Funke Akindele, Folarin “Falz” Falana, Olayode Juliana, and Tobi Makinde, along with newcomers like Patience Ozokwor, Nancy Isime, Bisola Aiyeola, Jackie Appiah, and Stan Nze.

The ‘Jenifa’ franchise has cemented its place in Nollywood, beginning as a 2008 movie and evolving into a cultural phenomenon with the award-winning TV series ‘Jenifa’s Diary’.

 

3) Seven Doors
Release Date: 13 December, 2024

Femi Adebayo’s directorial debut is a historical drama set in 18th and 19th-century Nigeria. The film explores themes of love, betrayal, and the tension between tradition and progress.

A Yoruba king (Femi Adebayo) and his Igbo queen (Chioma Akpotha) face challenges when a Hausa investor’s plans disrupt their kingdom’s traditions, setting the stage for conflict and restitution.

 

4) Thin Line
Release Date: December 2024

Produced by Mercy Aigbe and directed by Akay Mason, Thin Line promises to be a standout contender in December’s competitive lineup.

Directed by Jade Osiberu, ‘Christmas in Lagos’ is a holiday romance set against the backdrop of Lagos’ vibrant Detty December culture.

The film follows multiple interconnected stories, including Fiyin’s (Teniola Aladese) quest for love with her best friend, Elo (Shalom C. Obiago), who has a secret girlfriend, Yagazie (Angel Anosike). Meanwhile, 59-year-old Gbemi (Shaffy Bello) finds herself torn between a current boyfriend (Wale Ojo) and a former high school sweetheart (Richard Mofe-Damijo).

Cast: Shaffy Bello, Wale Ojo, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Teniola Aladese, Angel Anosike, Ladipoe, and Rayxia Ojo.

 

6) Alakada: Bad and Boujee
Release Date: December 2024

Toyin Abraham returns with the fifth installment of the ‘Alakada’ comedy series. This sequel continues the story of Yetunde, a young woman from a humble background who lies about her social status to fit into high society.

 

7) The Waiter

Release Date: December 2024

Directed by Toka McBaror and produced by Ayo Makun, ‘The Waiter’ features a star-studded cast including Regina Daniels, Deyemi Okanlawon, Rahama Sadau, Brain Jotter, and William Uchemba. Details of the plot are yet to be revealed.
