A violent clash broke out on Saturday evening when Udinese fans ambushed a train carrying Venezia supporters following their Serie A match, which Udinese won 3-2. The incident, which occurred near Udine at Basiliano station, involved about 50 Udinese and Austrian fans, many masked and armed with flares and smoke bombs. They forced the train to stop, triggering a mass brawl as Venezia supporters confronted them.
Police, backed by a helicopter, quickly intervened, dispersing the attackers.
Eight people—including five Austrians, one Bosnian, and one Albanian—were arrested. Several individuals sustained injuries, with two fans requiring hospitalization and three police officers also hurt. The train was damaged, forcing passenger transfers before it resumed its journey.
Both Udinese and Venezia condemned the violence, with Udinese emphasizing that such acts do not represent real fans. Authorities had anticipated trouble due to past incidents, including clashes in Venice last October. Reports suggest that Austrian ultras from Salzburg may have backed Udinese supporters.
