The Supreme Court on Friday ruled that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) should stop the release of funds to Rivers State government until the state House of Assembly is properly constituted by the 1999 Constitution.

The apex court also affirmed the Martins Amaewhule-led Assembly members as valid members of the house. The apex court also ordered all members of the Assembly to resume sitting.

The Amaewhule-led faction is loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike.

Earlier, the Federal High Court had given a similar judgement barring the CBN and the Accountant-General of the Federation from releasing statutory monthly allocations to the state.
