The Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja, on Friday, ordered that all members of the Lagos House of Assembly be joined as parties in the suit filed by ousted Speaker, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.

Justice Yetunde Pinheiro has also adjourned the case till 7 March to hear all pending applications.

Obasa had approached the court to challenge his removal by at least 36 of his colleagues on 13 January 2025.

In the application dated 12 February 2025, and filed by his lawyer, Chief Afolabi Fashanu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Obasa stated that he was removed from his position on 13 January, 2025, by 36 lawmakers while he was out of the country.

Mr. Tayo Oyetibo (SAN) is leading Mr. Bimbo Akeredolu (SAN) and other lawyers to represent Hon. Mojisola Meranda, who was elected to replace Obasa as Speaker.

Mr. Femi Falana (SAN) is leading Mr. Muiz Banire (SAN), and other counsels to represent the 36 lawmakers, Mr. Olu Daramola (SAN) and Mr. Dada Awosika, are representing other parties seeking to be joined in the suit.

Thirty-five members of the 40-member House were at the Ikeja High Court on Friday morning.

Obasa was removed while away in the United States a few weeks ago, and the lawmakers elected Meranda to take over from him as Speaker.

The case is being presided over by Hon. Justice Y.R. Pinheiro.
