The traditional ruler of Itori, headquarters of Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, Oba Fatai Akamo has offered scholarship to 21 indigent students of DS Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, located in the kingdom.
At the well-attended ceremony, the monarch also donated N500,000 to the school management to support the running cost of the institution, and promised to be available when he is needed for additional support.
The donations formed part of activities marking the monarch 21st coronation anniversary, held at the polytechnic. The event featured football and essay competitions.
Akamo attributed his success on the throne to God and all his subjects, adding that he would not stop adding value to developmental growth of the town.
The traditional ruler, who was royally welcome by the management and students of the polytechnic, was described as a symbol of positive development within the community and environs.
In the football event, Oba Akamo’s team defeated Olori Barakat Akamo squad 3-2 in a penalty shoot out, to be rewarded with N50,000 cash.
The polytechnic’s Dean of Students Affairs, Mr. O. A. Odusanya pointed out that the reign of the traditional ruler has been a blessing for the institution and the entire Itori community, describing him as a beacon of peace and progress.
Odusanya acknowledged the leadership quality of the Rector, Dr. Goke Rauf, emphasising that since he took over leadership, the institution has continued to transform to better status.
Rauf expressed appreciation to the Olu of Itori, adding that he has continued to make the institution and the community proud. He prayed for him to continue to excel in the task of ruling the community.
Rauf, however, tasked other individuals and stakeholders to emulate the gestures of the monarch in supporting education and the polytechnic in particular.
He thanked Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for his supportive roles towards the upliftment of the polytechnic into global recognition, as the students now embraced decency in characters.
As part of activities for the coronation anniversary, Akamo had earlier visited the Stella Obasanjo Children Home, State Hospital Sokenu, Correctional Centre and Sacred Heart Hospital, Abeokuta, where he donated food items and cash to support their needs.
